Neil is a qualified solicitor who maintains his practising certificate, qualifying into the profession with Brooke North, a commercial law firm based in Leeds. Neil has also worked for Arthur Andersen, DLA, Hammonds and latterly was a partner and Head of Tax at Nelson and Co, working over the years for both corporate and individuals and believes in delivering quality of service.  He founded Mercury Tax in 2003, trading out of Leeds only and specialising mainly in tax mitigation schemes.

The company has expanded significantly over the last few years and with the help of his co-Directors, the company has grown to include offices in London, Henley and Ireland, and now offers not only a full range of tax services, but also structures financial models and products promoted as both MTG offerings as well as developing products for sale by others.

Personal Assistant: Camilla Langrick

Neil Buckley is a Chartered Tax Adviser who joined Mercury in May 2005 and was appointed a director on 1 January 2006.

Prior to joining Mercury Neil spent nearly 20 years in tax with various “Big Four” firms latterly Deloitte where he was a tax director specialising in employment related matters.

Neil has worked closely with Neil Masters (they are known internally and externally as “The Neils”) to help grow and develop the business.  Neil spends a lot of his time in London and more recently Ireland to help continue the growth and development of the businesses in these locations.  He also shares the responsibility for the development of new products and services as well as spending a lot of time meeting new and existing introducers.

Personal Assistant: Laura Conroy

Dan joined Mercury Tax in May 2006 and is the Group’s Finance Director.  Since qualifying as a Chartered Management Accountant in 1997, he has held senior positions within privately owned companies playing a fundamental role in supporting rapid growth.

Dan brings a unique blend of skills to Mercury Tax drawing on his experiences which include re-financing & fundraising, acquisitions & joint ventures, board & shareholder dynamics, IT systems, change management, and corporate diversification.

Accounts Assistant: Lauren Hodgson

Joe is a qualified Chartered management accountant and holds a degree in management science from Trinity College Dublin. Prior to joining the Mercury group Joe gained over twelve years experience in offshore structuring and international tax planning with various legal and accounting firms in Jersey, including Deloittes.

Joe is responsible for the running of the Irish office and co-ordinating the offshore planning provided by the Mercury group.

Stephen has specialised in direct taxation for over 25 years and can demonstrate genuine all-round knowledge of corporate, personal, capital and inheritance taxes.

Stephen joined Mercury Tax Group in April 2007. Stephen is Head of Transactional Tax, focusing on providing tax solutions, primarily to owner managed businesses. Prior to this he was a tax partner and Head of Tax for Leeds and Harrogate at Bentley Jennison following 21 years at BDO, the UK member of BDO International – the 5th largest accounting network in the world, 15 as a partner.

Angela joined Mercury on 1 April 2008 to develop Private Client Services.  Prior to joining Mercury Angela was a partner in Grant Thornton Oxford where she headed up the Entrepreneurs and Private Client Team.

Angela has worked in tax for over 30 years and the experience she has gained over that time means she is able to fulfil the all important role of “trusted advisor”.  She advises individuals on all aspects of personal taxation including income tax, capital gains tax and inheritance tax. She has considerable experience in the use of trusts in inheritance tax planning and in advising individuals who are not domiciled in the UK.

Jane is a tax adviser and prior to joining Mercury in November 2003 was a senior tax manager in the indirect taxes team with PwC.  After a short time in the teaching profession Jane started her tax career with HM Customs and Excise taking her experience into private practice in 1988 when she joined KPMG.

Jane’s heads our business development team much of her time is spent developing relationships with firms of accountants and financial advisers promoting the services of Mercury Tax Group and assisting them in promoting effective tax planning for their clients.

Garry joined Mercury Tax Group in January 2007 to head up the London office.  He is a chartered accountant and chartered tax adviser. 

Much of Garry’s career has been spent with 2 of the Big 4 accounting firms delivering creative tax planning solutions for executives and owner-managed businesses across a range of taxes.  He also worked on Wall Street for 4 years and in Silicon Valley for 3 years advising on international tax planning.  He continues to innovate new tax solutions and to implement these across Mercury’s client base.

Andy has specialised in direct taxation for nearly 30 years and is one of the very few senior specialists with all-round tax skills and experience in the witness box, both at tribunals and in the High Court.

Catriona joined Mercury in May 2007 after a brief sojourn from professional practice during which time she set up, and ran a small successful design business supporting skilled artisans in the Asian 3rd World.  Prior to this, Catriona was a senior manager in Ernst & Young Manchester, and a senior manager and North West practice leader of the International Assignment Services Team in PricewaterhouseCoopers in Manchester.  Catriona is our Associate Director based in Leeds office and in addition to being involved in the day to day management of our Leeds office, and developing our working practices, she oversees the technical aspects of implementation of Mercury planning and is particularly involved with Stamp Duty Land Tax and Inheritance Tax.

 Personal Assistant: Amy Rostron

Charlie is a Chartered Tax Adviser, an associate of the Association of Taxation Technicians, a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and has also passed the Chartered Institute of Insurance’s financial planning certificate.

Nicola joined Mercury Tax in 2008 as Team Administrator. She is responsible for assisting the Leeds office with administration duties.

Jane qualified as a Solicitor in 1995. She has been employed as a Solicitor for 3 firms where she has had responsibility for approximately 500 clients together with responsibility for support staff.

Her role within Mercury Tax is a new & developing role to capitalise on her legal experience and expertise across all areas of the business.

Joe joined the transactional tax department at Mercury Tax as a Tax Assistant in May 2008.  Based in our Leeds office, Joe provides support to the transactional tax team. Joe joined Mercury from a large British utilities company. Joe graduated from the University of Leeds with a 2:2 (Honours) degree in Bioscience.

Sam joined Mercury Tax in January 2007 from a mid-sized accountancy practice in Ascot, where he worked within a busy outsourcing department. He graduated from the University of Leeds with a degree in Classical Civilisation and is currently studying for the Association of Taxation Technician exams. 

Sharda joined Mercury in March 2008.Prior to joining Mercury Sharda worked on tax investigations at Bentley Jennison, a “top twenty” accounting firm, in Leeds, and had 7 years experience with PricewaterhouseCoopers. Prior to that she learned about tax from the other side of the fence, with HM Revenue and Customs. Sharda has good experience of most aspects of enquiry work including local enquiries, Codes of practice 8 and 9, and employer compliance reviews.

Mark joined Mercury Tax Group in August 2007.  Mark is a senior private client expatriate tax specialist with nearly twenty years in the field providing personal tax consulting and compliance services to expatriates and US and UK high net worth private client individuals in London, Moscow and elsewhere, having worked for independent tax boutiques and three of the Big 4 firms with duties in London and in Moscow.

Mark is an enrolled agent for the US Internal Revenue Service. 

Ryan joined the Forensics and Investigations team in Leeds, from a local accounting practice, having studied for and passed his ATT exams. He has experience of predominantly personal tax and PAYE matters including capital gains.

Chris joined Mercury Tax as a Tax Assistant in October 2008 to be part of the structured products team based in Leeds. Chris works closely with Alex to assist with administering the day to day tax planning. Having joined from a small accountancy firm in York Chris is in the process of completing his Association of Accounting Technicians exams before moving on to study for the Tax equivalent.
