About Us

Tax advice

NEIL BUCKLEY

Director

Mercury is a specialist tax advisory practice.  We provide tax advice on a broad variety of situations, see our services for details.

Whilst we can and do help unrepresented taxpayers in their dealings with HMRC, we predominantly work alongside existing advisers be they accountants, IFAs or solicitors.  Our approach is to provide high level specialist tax advice that complements the role of the existing adviser.

The success of the Mercury model is based very much on the services we provide.  As a provider of specialist tax advice, often on a bespoke basis, we ensure that what we offer is innovative, focused on the client needs and within the appropriate commercial framework in which the client operates.

In order to maintain this unique position we have invested heavily, in people and ideas and continue to do so.  A quick browse through the “who’s who” section will show the range of talent, skills and experience that we have attracted to Mercury.  We take an interest in developments in the tax world and will contribute to consultations on tax policy whenever appropriate.

Our "Latest Tax News" bulletins are designed to highlight topical issues on a timely basis, without duplicating information that accountants can easily obtain elsewhere.  If you would like to receive these occasional bulletins by email please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

If you wish to see how Mercury can work with you either to deliver that bit extra to your key client or as an individual to help your current adviser maximise the opportunities for you then please contact one of our people for a no obligation chat.

Спасибо! Thank you!

Image On the 20th May, Mercury Private Client Services team held a business breakfast devoted to the Issues of UK property ownership by non-UK domiciled individuals. The breakfast was an unformatted open discussion - a powerpoint free zone - and is the first in a series of events planned for this year.

The discussion focused on the impact of the global economic situation and, in particular, Russian investment in the UK property market. Those who attended came from various business sectors related to the property market including tax and legal professionals, property agents, wealth planners, financial/mortgages brokers, and interior designers.

Most noted the decreasing number of "medium-sized" Russian investment inflows in to UK residential and commercial properties. The drop in the number of deals at the beginning of this year again illustrating the adverse impact of the global economic crisis on the market.

At the same time, the property agents noted that while fewer deals were being entered into, Russian investors continue to look for top end properties, while waiting for the market to bottom before deciding to invest. Does this mean an end to Russian investments in UK property? Of course not, but it does mean that professionals need to work harder for their fees. This is a recurring theme of course.

Participants took the opportunity to share their experiences and ideas on dealing with Russian investors. Reference was made to the various cultural and regulatory obstacles, not to mention problems with the two languages.

The breakfast was warmly received and we are grateful to all those who attended. We are already looking forward to the next event. At Mercury we are happy to advise you on all aspects of investment in the UK property market.
